The design is classic vintage Staunton with every element taking its cue from the Victorian era sets that have become legendary. What is most striking is how the shanks are so perfectly curved and nicely pinched in the centre; this, combined with the broad bases, results in the amazing proportion that these pieces exhibit with each element fitting perfectly within the set. The pieces are of course weighted in their bases and exhibit superb balance. The uniformity of the chessmen is outstanding, you can line up all four knights and it’s virtually impossible to see any difference between them. In order to achieve this only one knight carver is used to make all the knights. Consequently these chessmen are produced in very limited numbers, in batches of just five sets at a time. The chessmen are made from the highest grade black ebony and clean grained boxwood. The value of ebony continues to rise as it becomes more and more scarce, making these chessmen an excellent investment opportunity. They have been expertly finished and polished to a natural shine.
